Janet graduated from California State University twice, first in 1980 with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Piano Performance, and again in 2003 with a Master of Music Degree in Choral Conducting. She has been working at the First Presbyterian Church of Encino since February of 1983, when she accepted the position of organist and pianist/accompanist under the direction of Sterling Branton and later Stuart Balcomb. In 1997, Janet became of the Director of Music and welcomed Dr. Paul Pitman to the position of organist and pianist/accompanist at the church. Additionally, she works full-time as a teacher at Highland Hall Waldorf School in Northridge, where she teaches music and mentors 30 high school students.
